How to RE COAT a ceramic coated vehicle: the step by step process
Luke's vehicle already had a ceramic coating on it -- but he wanted to ceramic coat it again. What steps should he take? It's not just Luke -- we get this question all the time. You've coated your car, maybe a year or two ago, but you're interested in the DIY Detail line up of coatings. What do you need to do to ENSURE the paint is perfectly clean and "coating free" before re applying? You'll find out that it's not necessary to entirely remove the first coating -- we really just need to abrade the surface. It's a technique that we demonstrate in this video!

Could you use better microphones?
Is your 15 mm da gonna be the same as the 25mm just smaller mm Like the smoothness Stalling etc.. ?
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼love the stack
Where you get the knead down seat to polish ?
It's a new tool version inspired from the Racatack
What about the 3 and 5 stack ? What the difference?
So when needing more aggressive cut, I know you have the wool pad, but is it still just gold standard polish?
🫡Humberto
Here😜👍🏼
My Dad always said to use protection!!!
Is the iron remover necessary?
I've been watching a lot of you guys' video as I am planning to coat my car with C6 Hydro Lite after polishing. I have a 2500 miles new car. Would you think 1-step polish with DA red jeweling pad is good? or is it still better to do a 2-steps polish with DA + red jeweling, then a rotary + red to finish? I am a little bit worry of take too much of the clear coat off. Also is it safe to polish over emblems? Sorry for many questions
Was the 8oz of All Clean added to the IK Foamer the concentrate or was it 8oz of All Clean pre diluted at 15:1? Thanks for making all these great videos! You guys are tremendous! It’s made washing my car such a great experience each time.
Yeah, fuck the breaks.
Oh it really make a difference bufging dry, I dont think so...
I guess all the nuts and bolts are finger tight then? Lol
thats torque not pressure
Please start selling to the UK 🙏🏼🥺 I have a friend who’s a yank, but even with simply instructions on how I’ve explained to buy it using my credit card and ship it to me is too difficult for her bless her! Haha! Love my fellow Americans across the pond! 🤜🏼🤛🏼❤️
Can i please ask why the clay cloth at that stage rather than after a wash
Super helpful! Trying to fix some rock chips and when i put the touch up paint on I overfilled it slightly. Going to sand it down so it's back level with the rest of the paint. Did 2 of them as a test yesterday. Covered touch up with clear and let it dry over night. Going to polish them today and see how it's looking!
Love you Guys
BS if you you can feel it you ent poilshing it put
Yvan must be a speed demon 😈
Can you put a carnuba wax on top of a ceramic coating. Would it damage the coating?
thinking about starting a car washing business and absolutely loved this video. Was wondering if you might have any tips? I am 13 and want to start as soon as possible. Not sure what products to buy.
What product is Ivan holding here?
Panel prep?
Is there any type of upholstery Clean and Protect should not be used on?
I am going to try this as my pre soak with a foam canon, then rinse off and apply a layer of shampoo foam and then do contact wash, will try this on a ceramic coated car and a normal car protected with sealant.
Proper incredible suds dilution in wash bucket? 2 caps for 4~ gallons? 2 caps for foam cannon?
Question for y’all, I know yall previously recommended using your interior ceramic to waterproof your shoes and it works well. Have y’all tried it with work gloves?
If you don’t have a pad cleaner, what should you do to your pads in between panels?
So we all know about the grit guards. Where does one get them for the sides like that?
Can the gold standard polish be used on headlights too? I have read that polishing headlights are bad because it removes some anti-flare / safety coating off the headlights and will make them turned yellow in the future. Also would you recommend taping the headlight?
Yvan 🐐 of detailing
It seems they don't need the lone bucket either. The girl washes the entire truck without soaking new shampoo. Cleans in heavily soiled areas and then goes to areas where it should have started. I think that talking too much causes us to make those mistakes. While doing homework, there is nothing better than listening to Johann Sebastian Bach.
Thank you.
@@diydetailofficial Another detail, it is advisable to use protective gloves for the skin. It is known that cleaning products contain polymers that enter our body in case of contact with the skin. They cause cumulative damage to our body, which generally manifests itself in the long term. You are welcome.
"Exactly" Yvan even has me saying it lately when people are talking to me.
Sorry
The trim is matt black
Yes
Way to go now my wife will be speeding more than before and I will get Yvan said 😂
lol
Hey you guy's, I was just wondering what pressure washer/water system you have at your shop?
Kranzle and tap water
When will you have your battery power polishers 15mm?
No date yet, still in R&D
Choose DIY Detail products or not (I personally really like them), but Yvan is a voice of reason we all need to hear. I'm a classic over-thinker, and while it has helped in some aspects of my life and career, it definitely can add stress to what should be a stress relief, like detailing. I remember seeing the liiightest swirls appear on my family SUV hood (side panels were clear) after a spring clean when the sun hit it a certain way and immediately thought.. "omg what was that... Was it me... Ugggggghh". Look at the big picture... It just got through a Canadian winter (snow brushes and salt), a family trip to Quebec, it's parked outside, driven every day, etc. I cannot maintain perfect paint on this vehicle, and I have come to be at peace with this. I will do what I can with what's in my power to keep the paint looking excellent, but I have accepted the reality of a daily driven vehicle. And with the power of doing my first polish with the DIY system on my car, I have no fear of giving the SUV a polish to spruce it up next spring. For this mental peace, Yvan, if you're reading this, cheers bud and merci.
Merci
Thank you for the demo and info 👍🏼 Well done 👏🏼 🏴🇬🇧
Our pleasure!a
If I want to do a one step polish with a 5” palm sander, which pad should I use? I saw one video you used wool and another you used gold.
The Gold if you only have one
Another new 5-5-5 technique : 5 pounds of pressure on the gas pedal for 5 minutes .... 5 tickets 😅
lol
How many drops should I apply to the applicator for a headlight restoration?
2-3
Should i shampoo and extract first?
If needed
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I don't have a pad cleaner. For those of us who don't have a pad cleaner how can we determine what a damp pad is ? I have some pad conditioner spray I have used a couple of times, 2 or 3 sprays. Since I am in Florida and it is currently hot out I have been trying to practice on this old car.

Love your videos. Always get a nugget or two from each one. I'm an enthusiast who enjoys a clean shinny car. Unfortunately, I'm in my last 60's with a bad back so I have to work sections/days at a time. I've often wondered how hard to wipe when leveling a coating. I'm old school so was used to applying wax back in the 70's & 80's. Then had company cars. I started re-educating myself by watching Ivan when he was with Optimum & now DYI. He's brought me into today's world of car detailing. I worry that I'm wiping off coating by pressing/rubbing off too hard. Trying to get the slickest & shiniest car possible. Am I wiping off the coating too?
No need for pressure
I’m considering starting my own detail business Is it good idea to get business cards. If so where can I get them and where could I get a license. Thank you
Check with your manager municipal office for the license, for cards ask other local business owners
Can’t wait to watch this
Thank you.
When are you restocking 5in polishing pads(red)?
Hopefully next week
Synthetic clay towel on 2020 CR-V with factory "special coating." Any experience with this coating? I backed off quickly, because it felt so rough under the towel. Definitely not typical paints I deal with.
The only thing the factory does is paint and clearcoat. What you’re hearing is years of contamination.
